Wild Mushrooms could bloom like crazy with this fall's weather! A little rain and steadily dropping temperatures beget an amazing variety of mushrooms in a wildly fascinating array of sizes, shapes, colors, textures and aromas in our forests, fields and lawns. Vernon is on the doorstep of the Mushroom Capital of the world, the Columbia Mountain range, where the greatest diversity of mushrooms are found.

Nature Tour Guide, Roseanne Van Ee, conducts guided Wild Mushroom Safaris in the Mabel Lake area for people wanting to experience this incredible display of intriguing fungi. The full day tours are fun and informative fall excursions through the woods to view an amazing array of mushrooms from spiny, white Coral Fungus to huge, bright orange Lobsters. Photographers, artists, gardeners, cooks, naturalists, hikers, mycophiles (people who like mushrooms) and anyone with a sense of curiosity will enjoy these tours.

Little Honey Mushrooms on a stumpThe afternoon includes a session on using mushroom field guides. "The books can be quite confusing to use until you've been given clear instructions. I would like to see more people get into mushroom watching just because they're so fantastic!" Van Ee guarantees anyone who spends a day out on a Mushroom Safari will be hooked on wild mushrooms forever! Participants are encouraged to bring cameras.

We leave Vernon, for a scenic ride through the fall colors and great commentary! "We had so much fun last year," explains Van Ee, "We laughed our heads off at crazy mushroom jokes, puns and stories."
